Being naked in public as a human right
Being naked in public, e.g., nudity at the swimming pool or sauna, is a human right. No institution has the right to declare the display of the naked body per se as immoral or indecent. Nor are there any “indecent body parts.”
As free and self-determined individuals, people should have the right to show their own bodies as they wish, as long as they do not harm anyone in the process. Public nudity is an expression of individual freedom and self-determination.
Public nudity leads to cultural and gender equality: Many societies and cultures have different standards and norms regarding nudity, which are often gender- or culture-dependent. By considering public nudity a human right, one can argue that these norms should be reconsidered in order to promote gender equality and cultural diversity. The right to public nudity can be seen as a step toward eliminating gender discrimination and promoting equality and diversity.
Public nudity promotes natural body acceptance: The idea that certain body parts are considered “indecent” and must be hidden is often based on cultural or social norms that are passed down from generation to generation. A right to public nudity could help promote a more positive body image and a healthier attitude toward the human body by supporting natural acceptance of the human body without shame or stigma.
Public nudity also has health benefits, such as the opportunity to enjoy sunlight and fresh air on the skin, which can contribute to vitamin D production. It is advisable to use sunscreen whether wearing swimwear or not. Not wearing wet swimwear helps prevent colds. A right to public nudity could therefore be considered beneficial to physical and mental health.
There are cultural, religious, and legal differences that influence perceptions of public nudity. It is therefore important to be respectful of other people's opinions and concerns while advocating for your own beliefs.
